My Favorite Travel Accessories

As someone who travels quite frequently, I’ve made a lot of travel mistakes ESPECIALLY when it comes to packing. I would either pack too much, too little or just the wrong stuff in general. In the last year in a half I have taken 38 flights (that I can remember) and by doing so I’ve learned a lot about what travel accessories are actually useful. So I’ve made a list of a few of my favorite ones and I thought I’d share them with you and tell you why I love them so much!

Now whatever luggage you choose to bring with you should totally be based on what kind of trip you’re going on. I have a few rolling suitcases for what I like to call “vacations” and a couple of different backpacks for “travel”. For most of my trips, I like to bring my High Sierra 50L backpack. It’s not huge, but you can still pack a so much stuff in it. Its got really good padding on the straps so it comfortable. When I travel it’s usually quite the opposite of luxury. It’s nice to be able to carry your stuff all on your back when climbing on and off buses or walking down a small dirt path trying to find your Airbnb!

Universal Charger

This has BY FAR been one of the best things I accidentally bought. On a trip to Thailand last year I forgot my camera charger. When I went walking the streets to find one, a very kind man sold me this. This is a UNIVERSAL Charger, it has two adjustable prongs (positive and negative) allowing me to charge almost any battery! So now I just bring this one little thing with me and I don’t have to bring my Canon, Nikon,  and Go Pro charger. SAVE SPACE. If you’re backpacking, every little thing takes up major space and adds weight to your bag so you’ve really gotta pack smart!

These little locks are great for protecting your stuff. I love using them on my backpacks when walking around. Nothing worse then standing in a crowd worrying if someones stealing your wallet or even your passport out of your bag.

The BIG lock is great if you plan on staying in Hostels. Most hostels will provide you with a personal locker to store a few things, but they won’t provide you with a lock so make sure you bring your own!

Hanging Toiletry Bag

Make sure you buy a HANGING toiletry bag. A lot of hostel showers are just a simple shower that you step into. Chances are you won’t have a whole bathroom to put your stuff down in. So get one with a hook that way you can hang your stuff on the back of the door. Just trust me on this one.

Dual Voltage Hair Dryer

Depending on where you travel in the world there will be different voltages. It’s important to know which one to use in whichever country you’re traveling to. I LOVE having a dual voltage compact hair dryer. This one folds up and it super easy to switch between voltages.

Universal Outlet Adapters & Power Strips

You’re gonna need universal outlet adapters so that you can actually plug in your electronics. Different places in the world use differently shaped outlets. Most hostels have universal outlets already in the walls but not all. Airports and other places probably won’t though, so just bring your own. BUY A POWER STRIP!!! Most hostels and even some hotel rooms will only give you one or two outlets so bring a power strip that way you can plug all your stuff in. I like this power strip because it has a lot of USB outlets which I tend to use more of then regular outlets these days.

**TIP** If you want to make friends at the airport bring a power strip. I cant tell you how many times I’ve been in the airport looking for an empty outlet, BUT if you have a power strip most people are willing to let you plug it in so that everyone can charge up!

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes can be a great way to keep your bag organized. They’re also really great to kinda hide your “personals” when going through security. It can be super embarrassing when TSA decides they need to empty and search your bag in front of everyone and all your undies are sitting on the table for the world to see. Just make sure you buy the really thin ones so they don’t take up the extra room!

Life Proof Case

Life Proof phone cases are awesome. They’re super durable and waterproof. I never travel without it! This is the one I use the Lifeproof FRĒ SERIES but they have a few different options.

Microfiber Towel

Microfiber Towels!! I’m such a cheap ass so I was resistant to spend money on another “towel” for a long until my mom bought me one for Christmas and I will never go back. These things are great. They dry super fast which is really great when you’re constantly on the go and they roll up really small so they won’t take up much space!
